Stories of Our Artisans - Hands That Create, Stories That Inspire!

Every lacquer piece at Udaari Crafts is more than an object. It is a story — of a woman’s journey, her resilience, and her craft. In Sillanwali, Punjab, the art of Naqshi (wooden lacquer work) has been practiced for generations. Today, women artisans are keeping this heritage alive, creating products that carry both beauty and meaning.

Shazia | Painting a Brighter Tomorrow

Shazia, a mother of three, had never imagined that her ability to paint fine floral motifs could one day support her family. After joining Udaari Crafts, she now creates lacquer trays and bowls in bold reds, yellows, and blacks. With her income, she pays for her children’s schooling and proudly says, “Ab main sirf ghar ka hissa nahi, sahara bhi hoon” (Now I am not just part of the home, I am its support).

Rukhsana | From Tradition to Independence

Rukhsana grew up watching her father work on lacquered wood, carefully balancing colors and patterns. She inherited those skills, but it was only through Udaari Crafts that she turned them into income. Her trays and cutlery sets are admired for their balance of tradition and modern elegance. For the first time, Rukhsana feels her work is respected; both inside and outside her home.

Bushra | Passing on the Legacy

Bushra, one of Udaari’s senior artisans, has dedicated herself not only to producing lacquer products but also to teaching younger women in her village. She believes that Naqshi is more than decoration; it is a cultural identity that must survive. Through Udaari Crafts, her bowls and serveware reach homes across Pakistan, while her training ensures the art continues for the next generation.

A Story Within Every Piece

From Shazia’s vibrant trays to Rukhsana’s elegant cutlery and Bushra’s timeless bowls, every lacquer product is a living story. These are not just crafts; they are symbols of empowerment, pride, and heritage.

When you bring a piece of lacquerware from Udaari Crafts into your home, you are carrying the story of an artisan who turned her skill into strength.
